“Safer Products, Greater Quality & Quicker Lead Times at Lower Cost”

CSR

Overview

Ugwebu is a self-regulating corporation that holds itself, its stakeholders, and the public responsible on a social level. Ugwebu is cognizant of the influence we have on all facets of society, including economic, social, and environmental, through exercising corporate social responsibility.

In the usual course of our company, we strive to contribute positively to society and the environment, rather than adversely. After all, it is also part of our surroundings.

Our dedication to CSR initiatives has aided in the development of a stronger relationship between workers and Ugwebu, raised employee morale, and assisted both employees and Ugwebu in feeling more connected to the world around us.

Food Parcels Donation during COVID 19 Lock Down

20 food parcels were donated to Soweto neighborhoods by UGWEBU – 11th December, 2020

Soweto’s underprivileged families received 20 food boxes from UGWEBU, ensuring that they have food to eat when other centers and schools are closed, which is frequently the case when their main source of food is unavailable. Rice, sugar, canned pilchards, canned baked beans, oil, cake flour, cabbage, potatoes, and maize meal were all included in the packages, as well as other ingredients.

All of our SOWETO recipients expressed their appreciation for our consistent assistance of the most disadvantaged families in their communities. The contributions were much appreciated by the families.

Sponsorship of Rethabile Taunyane The Visually Impaired Athlete

We provide sponsorship to Rethabile Taunyane, a visually impaired marathon runner. Taunyane has competed in the Comrades Marathon on six different occasions. He is a regular at the Old Mutual Two Oceans and has competed in the 21km Old Eds Road Race, where he has won at least two medals. He has taken part in the Mandela Marathon in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

Taunyane is presently a member of the Rockie Runners running club in Johannesburg.

Taunyane has been sponsored by us, we have provided him with accommodation, transportation, and food funds. Apart from that, we have provided him with tracksuits and other clothing to ensure that he is comfortable throughout his races and training for such events.

The Porter’s Hand NPO Sanitary Towel Donation

Consider the plight of school-age girls who are now confined to their homes, deprived of essential knowledge on menstrual hygiene and access to sanitary facilities. Menstruating girls and women find it difficult to maintain their menstrual hygiene when they use communal restrooms, which is common in many schools. In accordance with the above, we partnered with The Porter’s Hand NPO on a program called “I am a queen campaign” to give and educate young school students about the need of sanitary towels. This was carried out at Mayibuye Primary School in Soweto, South Africa on the 11 of September 2016.

In the future, we want to collaborate closely with law enforcement personnel. We are also collaborating closely with the health teams in the villages and townships to guarantee the distribution of sanitary pads to the most vulnerable girls; nevertheless, we cannot accomplish this goal alone; we need the support of everyone who is able to contribute to this cause.
